Day 1: To the Okavango Delta (Mokoro Excursions)
We will pick you up early in the morning and head for the Okavango Delta to meet with experienced mokoro polers.
The Okavango Delta, Africa’s last great unspoiled wilderness, is situated in the northern reaches of Botswana. It is a vast ecosystem created as the Okavango River spills over onto the shifting sands of the parched Kalahari Desert.
It then fans out to form the Okavango Delta, a 16 000 square–kilometre wilderness of papyrus swamps, shallow reed–beds and fertile floodplains, dotted with islands and laced with a network of channels and lagoons.
Boarding your mokoro around 0800 hrs, you will silently be poled along the quiet waterways to one of its many islands where you will set up camp for two (2) nights.
At this island you will set off on foot, as soon as the heat of the day relents, on your first safari walk within the Okavango Delta. Expect to encounter a fantastic variety of large game during these safari walks such as elephants, hippos, giraffes, zebras, etc.
Day 2: Mokoro rides & Safari walks
Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your morning safari walk in the Okavango Delta. As you explore the Okavango on foot you will once again be searching for game as the Okavango is world famous for its rich biodiversity. These safari walks are led by local guides who are part of the community that lives on the fringes the Delta.
On these outings you may come across a combination of game animals and you will also be presented with excellent photographic opportunities to capture the beauty of the Okavango. It is possible to spot game such as elephants, hippos, zebras, etc. during these safari walks.
Come back from the safari walk around midday to chill and enjoy your lunch.
In the afternoon you will set off once again to explore the Okavango Delta either on foot or in a mokoro.
Return to camp in the late afternoon to have a shower and thereafter enjoy a campfire cooked dinner.
Day 3: Departure
Wake up early morning for coffee/tea, cereals, rusks and cooked breakfast. After breakfast you will set off with your guide for your last morning safari walk/mokoro excursion in the Okavango Delta.
You will return to camp at the end of today’s Okavango Delta excursion for showers, a change of clothes and a fully cooked brunch.
Having immersed yourself within the spirit of African adventure, your mokoro excursion wraps up. You will silently be poled along the miraculous waterways of the Okavango Delta back to the mokoro station for a pick up by your safari guide.
You will then board your safari vehicle and head back to Maun. The safari officially ends upon arrival in Maun today. Your guide will take you to your place of lodging/airport whereupon he will then bid you farewell and return to base.
MOBILE CAMPING SAFARI
What is a Mobile Camping Safari?
This is a tented camping safari whereby guests are transferred in four wheel drive vehicles from camp to camp. In case of Botswana, these safaris offer affordable African vacations and take guests to some of the best wilderness areas the country has to offer. They are privately guided and therefore usually consist of guests travelling in a small group with a professional guide and a staff complement made up of the safari chef and one or two camp assistants.
These safaris give some of the best safari experiences as they provide access to some of the prime wildlife areas and make use of the private, unfenced, natural campsites to be found within Botswana’s famous game reserves and national Parks.
MOBILE CAMPING SAFARIS
“It’s all about going back to the basics, back to the way safaris used to be―camping under canvas in the African wilderness, eating under the stars, moving from camp to camp and leaving nothing behind, apart from our footprints.”
